Heating Advice
My local council want to remove my back boiler and locate the new boiler in the wardrobe of a bedroom. Is this allowed under building regulations?
It is permissible to install a modern, balanced flue boiler which meets the relevant standards in a bedroom (or a cupboard in a bedroom). There may be additional requirements regarding the cupboard installation (ventilation, available clearances around the boiler etc), which will be covered in the boiler manufacturer’s instructions.
If you have doubts then the best people to contact would be the Local Building Control at the council. As the installation is being carried out by or for the council it would be fair to assume that the installation requirements have been checked, but perhaps worth confirming nevertheless.
If you are concerned about issues such as boiler noise (as a possible inconvenience rather than a safety issue) then this could be raised with the department controlling the work as other boiler locations (kitchen etc) may be possible, but more expensive for them. NB I could not comment definitely on the feasibility of this as do not have details of the property.
It is possible that the other installations which the council have removed were not carried out to required standards/regulations.
