Heating Advice
We have calor gas central heating and would like to know if it is cheaper/more efficient to leave the heating on but at a lower temperature or to have it come on and off twice a day but at a higher temperature?
This is a frequently asked question, however it is not possible to give a definitive answer as this depends on many factors such as the age and construction of the property (level of insulation, thickness and material of walls, draughts etc), the design and efficiency of the heating system and the personal preferences of the owner.
An older property may benefit from having continuous low level heating as this allows the fabric to heat up. A newer house which has smaller rooms and is well insulated may warm up very quickly ad hence the “timed” heating regime may be best.
You could try using each method for a period and assessing your subsequent bills.
