Heating Advice

Would you consider a central heating system connected to a back boiler for which you can no longer buy a plate to cover the space under the fire, and which has to be manually primed to be fit for purpose in a house my son is renting?

There are strict requirements on gas safety for appliances in properties rented out by landlords and I have copied below the link to the pages on the Gas Safe website (successor to CORGI). As you will see, safety certificates and an annual safety check are required.

In terms of whether the system is “fit for purpose” I cannot offer advice as, providing the system is safe, this is a matter of consumer/housing legislation (or down to the contract with the landlord in terms of maintenance and repair) and we do not have expertise in this area. Local Citizens Advice or a local authority Housing Department may be able to advise.

Older heating systems may well have been designed to operate without a timer.
