Energy Efficiency
This simple tool will show you how much CO2 and money you can save by taking some simple energy saving measures
Other simple energy saving tips are:
- Turn your thermostat down by one degree
- Ensure your hot water cylinder has a jacket (if you can see the copper tank it has no jacket)
- Insulate the hot water pipes
- Fit Thermostatic Radiator Valves
- Your home will take a while to cool down so if you are out of the house during the day, set your heating to switch off before you leave. Likewise in the evening, setting your heating to switch off before you go to bed will mean that you’re not heating the house while you’re asleep.
- Water needn’t be heated to a scalding temperature. Your hot water cylinder thermostat should be set at 60°C or 140°F. Any higher is a waste of energy and can lead to scalding; any lower and there may be risks of legionella.
- Close your curtains at dusk to reduce the amount of heat escaping through your windows.

The G2Action website has been developed with the support of the heating, insulation, glazing and lighting industries to provide information on how to improve the Energy Efficiency of Homes and improving the EPC ratings from "G" towards "A". There is a great deal of confusing and sometimes conflicting information about what should be done and what is the best thing to do? What will save the most money? And what is the pay-back?
The fact is that all homes will need to be fully insulated, have the most efficient heating and hot water systems and controls, have efficient windows and low energy lighting. It is not about why or how it is about when and that is now!
